Previously, Melissa taught in diverse elementary classrooms, including Grade 4 at Captain Samuel Douglass Academy (2021–2023), where she redesigned the social studies curriculum, provided district-wide classroom management professional development, and implemented a positive behavior support system adopted by multiple educators. She also taught Grade 2 at Ledge Street Elementary School (2018–2021), supporting students with significant ELL and special education needs, and served as a Special Education Teacher for grades 2–4 at Parker Elementary School (2012–2018), co-teaching in inclusion settings, developing IEPs, and presenting district training on supporting students with dyslexia. | Active Engagement: I believe adults learn best when they are actively involved in the learning process. I design workshops and sessions that include hands-on activities, role-playing, and collaborative problem-solving so participants can immediately apply strategies to their own classrooms. Practical, Relevant Application: Adult learners benefit from content that directly connects to their professional experiences. I focus on providing actionable strategies, real-world examples, and tools that educators can implement the very next day. Reflective Practice and Collaboration: I encourage participants to reflect on their current practices, share insights with peers, and collaboratively explore solutions. This approach fosters deeper understanding, supports professional growth, and builds a community of practice among educators. |
