The number one strategy I use when teaching adults is to know and understand where the students are coming from, your most powerful teaching tool comes from developing a strong relationship with your students.
Secondly, honoring and recognizing that everyone learns differently and should be assessed to reflect those differences.
Thirdly, I may or may not be the expert on the subject I am leading a training on but there is always more for me to learn and students often make the best teachers.
