Work Experience

I have worked in the field of early education and care in many roles, from direct teaching to administration, since high school. Since 2018, I have been a consultant, Program Coach, Program Coordinator, Co-Director, and Inclusion Facilitator at the Winston Prouty Center for Child and Family Development's Early Learning Center in Brattleboro. Primary responsibilities included coaching and mentoring teachers, maintaining licensing and other records, hiring staff, creating performance improvement plans, supporting staff's professional development, creating content and leading weekly and monthly team meetings, creating behavior plans for individual children, attending meetings, maintaining a safe environment especially during the COVID pandemic, and working with families to address their concerns.
5-10 years instructing adults.

Leadership
As with all learners, the most important considerations when working with adult learners are to meet them where they are; to develop a relationship of trust and dependability; and to be self-reflective and recognize how my words or body language might be interpreted by the other person. Teaching adults can be very different than teaching children. Adults contextualize “learning” in a unique way, and can be defensive if it seems like new learning challenges their deeply-held perspectives. Adult learners can bring with them negative habits or strong feelings from earlier learning experiences that may prevent open curiosity towards new ideas, so my goal as an instructor would be to invite questions, value the contributions of all the learners, and create a culture of respect and nonjudgement.
