Work Experience
November 2006- September 2009 I owned and operated a child care program in my home. I attended several professional development training's in that time as well as achieved a 3 star level child care program. I was a partner with the Head Start family childcare partnership program. My primary responsibilities were to maintain a safe and enriching program for the healthy development of young children. I planned activities, and took an individualized approach to facilitating learning for the children in my program. September 2009- July 2013 Early Head Start Home visitor, at North East Kingdom Community Action. I provided home visiting services to at risk population of families with a prenatal mother to children age 3, to help them have a healthy start to life and be prepared for preschool. I worked with families to stabilize stressors and over come barriers, and made referrals to other supporting agencies. I also was the playgroup facilitator, which involved a once per month parent workshop where relevant info to parents was presented on topics such as dental health, child development, fun ides to promote learning, managing challenging behavior, healthy meals and snacks, making toys from recycled materials, setting up a successful play date etc. July 2013- May 2014 Reach Up Case Manager, North East Kingdom Community Action. I was responsible for maintaining a case load of families accessing the reach up program for state financial assistance. I worker with them to set goals and work on overcoming barriers to employment such as housing issues, substance abuse, lack of education and training, health related issues, childcare, and transportation problems. During this time I taught 2 rounds of a 6 week parenting class using the "positive solutions for families" curriculum, which is part of the CSEFEL model. I averaged about 6 adults in my class at a time. The classes were one day per week for 2 hours. May 2014- January 2015 Due to personal challenges with childcare for my own family, I reopened my registered child care program in my home. I again was in partnership with the Head start FCCP program, and cared for children of various ages. I worked with the teaching strategies gold program to provide an individualized curriculum to the children in my care. This was a short term plan until I could find alternate childcare for my own children while maintaining an income. Families were aware of this from the start. January 2015- Present CIS Childcare Coordinator, Family center of Washington County. I work in connection with social workers at the department for children and families to find and secure childcare for children in protective custody. I maintain the childcare financial assistacne for these children as well as coordinate transportation if needed. I also manage the childcare financial assistance for families with a child with a special health need. Part of my position is also to support Specialized childcare providers and to teach the basic specialized care training to providers who want to become specialized. The family center also operates on the assumption that when a staff member attends a training that has beneficial information to the agency, that the staff member will present the material covered to all staff at our monthly in-service meetings. I will be presenting information regularly on training's I have attended. March 2017- Present Disabilities Services Manager/ Coach NEKCA Head start. I oversee the IEP and individualization for children with identified disabilities in our preschool programs. I do on site observations of children and help identify resources, supports and implement behavior plans. I also facilitate a Practiced based coaching group with our classroom teachers, as well as facilitate monthly teachers meetings, Home Visitor Meetings, and Inclusion Specialist meetings for our staff. | ||||||||||

1.) I believe that adults coming into any training have a lot of expertise already. I will respect and acknowledge that experience and add to it. 2.) Adult learners are busy and I don't want to waste anyone's time. Training's will be flexible to meet the needs of those attending and to respect that participants have responsibilities outside of the classroom, and that at times may become a priority. Participants will be encouraged to take care of themselves in a way that is respectful to other, but also meets their own needs. 3.) I believe the best teacher is experience coupled with self- reflection. Participants will be encouraged to self-reflect on what they have learned and make a plan on how they can put what they have learned into practice. |
